We’re also celebrating Black History Month and have been pouring over the many articles and images in Google Arts & Culture’s page in our Read section. We’ve received quite a few job opportunities through our network, so go ahead and Apply if interested, and if you’re not looking for a new job at the moment, enjoy the events we picked out for you and Go.

YPA Arts Weekly | Feb. 11-17

February 10, 2019 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

This week the College Art Association’s Annual Conference arrives to town and we hope you take advantage of their generous Pay-As-You-Wish policy. It’s perfect for non-members, those not able to afford the steep ticket price, or those who can only attend a few sessions throughout the week. Also featured this week is Fractured Atlas’s staff page outlining their company policies and employee resources. We found this entire site incredibly informative. The transparency and support this arts organization gives its workers should be an industry standard. And though not all of the resources are relevant for a Fractured Atlas outsider, we recommend the Autonomy, Decisions & Conversations, and Aligning Objectives sections. More arts resources and tips in our Read, Go, and Apply sections below—and onward Young Professionals!

YPA Arts Weekly | Sept. 17 - 23

September 16, 2018 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

Who knew that sometimes all you need to become more creative is to start dating someone from another culture than yours? If it were only that simple. Instead, we’re working on coping with our failures and learning how to become better at parties in our Read section, so we can utilize our newly acquired skills at events in our Go section. And if you’re on the hunt for new opportunities, head over to Apply for new jobs. And make sure to snag your ticket for the Affordable Art Fair this month with a special YPA ticket offer.

Arts Weekly Round Up February 18 - March 3

February 16, 2018 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

Should art museums be free? Can market transparency ever truly be attainable in the art world? Is it possible to thrive in two seemingly opposite career paths at the same time? This Arts Weekly tackles all these big questions and more. Our Reads & Feeds section is full of advice, career path guidance, and the words of one forward thinking executive director (looking at you, Charles Venable). The Around Town section is all about planning, growth, and education. Take advantage of Benvenuti Art's budgeting workshop for small organizations and a practical session on authenticating art. For The Hunt we scavenged the depths of the top art job sites out there to pull highlights so you don't have to! Now go on and get out there - read, see, do, apply!

Arts Weekly Round-Up February 5 - 11

February 03, 2018 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

What do the arts have to do with the Super Bowl? Well, look no further than Philly and Boston's museums to give you another (artsy) reason to follow the game. If you're however feeling bored during the time between Super Bowl commercials and before and after the halftime show - rest assured that being bored is good for you. Find out more in our Reads and Feeds section, where we're inspired by how music improves the lives of people with dementia and the artist Doreen Garner who set up a tattoo parlor dedicated to Black Pride. Catch her in person this week at a film premiere and check out Around Town for more events to attend this week, like the talk on Michelangelo just in time for the Met Museum's blockbuster exhibition. If the new year means a new job for you, let The Hunt section start you off, or start browsing the job sites mentioned. Onwards through this cold, YPA-ers!

Arts Weekly Round-Up January 22 - 28

January 19, 2018 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

Can you hear that? Yesterday the sound of activists, feminists, artists, and change-makers loudly banded together for both the Women's March and Art Action Day (AAD) for programs, art works,  performances, and protests. AAD's motto Art Saves Democracy aims to promote unification in this turbulent time of political unrest and inequality. Read more in our Reads and Feeds section, where you can also catch a few resonating reads on career pursuit and growth. In Around Town a reminder that there is still time to reserve your Art of Empowerment ticket hosted by Women of Culture next weekend and plenty of programs that promote growth and personal, professional, and social development. The Hunt has a bit of something for everyone - marketing, development, sales, part-time, long-term - the right job is out there for you. And if you don't see something you like, be sure to explore each of The Hunt's job sites!

Weekly Round-Up July 24 - 30

July 23, 2017 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

The biggest arts-related news in the city last week was the announcement of the first New York City Cultural Plan. We've been discussing what's in it, how it will impact our work going forward, and what it means for the organizations we work at. The summer is usually a good time to plan ahead and think big. At YPA we are looking towards an exciting fall with professional development events in the making - so keep an eye out and subscribe to our our newsletter (if you haven't already). What are your big plans for the fall? Switching jobs? Learning new skills? Expanding your network? We've got you covered on all of those. Read on for this week's Round-Up!

Weekly Round-Up July 3 - 9

June 30, 2017 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

We made it! A nice long holiday weekend has arrived to celebrate our great (albeit a bit stressful right now) country and with it time to sneak off to enjoy the cool air conditioning in cultural spots around town. This week we are heading to the Park Avenue Armory's unnerving surveillance exploring-installation, Hansel & Gretel created by the brilliant minds of Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron, in collaboration with Ai Weiwei. And in the reads section, If you missed our Women in the Arts: Negotiation Workshop, we highlighted some of the best advice from the evening in The Art of the Ask. It's a quick read on the YPA Blog.

If you are struggling advocating for art funding, this is the report for you! We are inspired and motivated by the newly released Americans for the Arts study that provides quantitative data for the arts industries' economic impact. The conversation about how digital media can be your biggest tool continues in our Reads and Feed section while on Monday, the Y92 will dig deeper on what all that screen time means for our brains (and sanity). In The Hunt, our job resource list is continually growing.. be sure to explore each of these recommended resources in your pursuit for that next career step.

Weekly Round-Up May 29 - June 4

May 28, 2017 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

Happy Memorial Day Weekend everyone! We hope you are enjoying the long weekend with some well-deserved time off to relax. Personally, we hit Museum Mile and managed three museums in a day (record?) by hitting up the Rei Kawakubo exhibition at the Met, the current exhibition at the Guggenheim and the Jawlensky exhibition at the Neue Galerie. All highly recommended. We've also been finding some good and bad news this week for arts professionals, so read on to find out more in our Words that Lingered section. And in case you're worried that the summer lull of art events and performances might affect you, we've got you covered: Find out where to go for opera during the warmer months or make sure to have your summer reading list ready!

Weekly Round-Up May 22 - 28

May 21, 2017 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

This week we went on a Museum themed TedTalk spiral starting with Museum Hack Founder Nick Gray's lecture on how he began loving museums. Side note: If you haven't been on one of his interactive tours of the Met, we recommend this as a great thing to do when your skeptical and not-art minded friends come to visit. They're guaranteed to leave the city with a whole new perspective on what a museum is and have a lot of fun along the way. If your friends and family aren't flocking to visit, and next week is all about you - we collected a line-up of artist lectures, tech symposiums, and women networking panels for you to attend. More good news in our reads round-up, it looks like our jobs are the least likely to be taken over by mindless robots. Apparently creativity can't be hard-wired - go figure. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

April 16, 2017 by Young Professionals in the Arts in Weekly Round-Up

Tensions can run high this time of the year, the Spring brings an active calendar that keeps on delivering events, conversations, and all-day symposiums that can have you running all over town like a maniac. This week is no different, we've got a full list of things to read and go see. Like supporting Art F City at their goth themed benefit and engaging in discussions around gender challenges and exploring the notion of post-truth in the era of the new administration. Our weekly reads include our first feature of an NEA-funded organization, Alice James Books, tactics for finding the assertive balance in the work place, and a look at the history of gender representation in classical music. Rounding it out is a few features for those on the job hunt! - Take a deep breath and find your zen. We've got you covered.
